How I Found a Telecommuting IT Job

If you have spent any time on the FlexJobs website you have probably noticed that some of the job postings have the titles written in orange—these are jobs from our featured employers. Featured employers are companies that have an established relationship with FlexJobs. They are able to post jobs directly on the website and also have access to view the resumes and profiles of active job seekers. Recruiters for these featured companies will often reach out to FlexJobs’ members directly about an available position. That very thing happened to Michael W. from Shelby, North Carolina, and it lead to this job seeker success story about how he found a telecommuting IT job.

“So I had lost my job back in mid-March. I had signed up for unemployment. I had searched and searched through newspapers, online job boards and I wasn’t finding anything. I would also like to point out that I live in an area that would be considered a small town kind of area so finding a job in my field (Web Development/IT) is a little difficult, especially with not having good enough transportation to travel very far.

I stumbled upon FlexJobs and signed up after looking it over for a while, looking up reviews online, and then TEN DAYS after I signed up and filled out my resume and profile, I received an e-mail from a company who had seen my profile and wanted to talk to me about working for them.

I started working for them a week after that. Two months later, I have proven myself so well that I was officially promoted today. I telecommute since I live in the Southeast and the job is in the Washington, DC, area. I get to choose my own hours and I get to work from home, which has been the best thing for me due to transportation reasons, medical reasons, and many more.
