Remote, Flexible Writing Job Is a Good Fit for Busy Pro

It’s pretty challenging to find the time for everything we want to achieve in our personal and professional lives. Fitting it all in may seem like an uphill climb at times, and that’s where a remote, flexible writing job is a good fit that can make healthy, sustainable work-life balance a reality.

Finding a Flexible Writing Job as a Busy Professional

We’re highlighting a FlexJobs member who was motivated to search for flexible work as a way to help maintain all the activities in his life and have a meaningful job at the same time. Timothy J., who lives in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, found a remote, flexible job as a writer for Content Equals Money, which offers SEO and writing services for businesses. When he began his job search, Timothy already had a full plate, he told us. “I’m in school, planning a church, and have a family,” Timothy wrote in response to questions from FlexJobs. “I occasionally have conferences [where] I present papers, or [attend] all-day class.”

Sounds super busy, right? With that full schedule in mind, Timothy set out to find a job that would allow him to have time for all of the priorities in his life. He found out about FlexJobs from his sister-in-law, who had already found work—a flexible writing job, no less—as a FlexJobs member using our many features and benefits. After learning of her success, Timothy said, “I applied for the same job and got it.”

Superior Job Search Options

Timothy told us he found the job search capabilities of FlexJobs far better than those of other sites. At one of the job search sites he joined, he said, “You have to sift through thousands of postings before you find one that sort of fits.” After signing up at that site, he said was slammed with “tons of spam emails and phone calls,” including a call asking him to sign up to get a bachelor’s degree online—even though he holds two master’s degrees. A well-known free classifieds site was filled with scam jobs, he said. By comparison, FlexJobs hand-screens all of our posted positions precisely to avoid such scams.

Tips for Other Job Seekers

The main tip that Timothy has to offer other job hunters is about networking. Says Timothy: “Tap your network—not your social media network. Ask friends and family. Get the word out that you’re looking for a job.” Another suggestion from Timothy is to focus on broader connections as well. “Your chances of getting [a job] go up exponentially if there’s a connection,” Timothy said. “I’ve never been able to get a job without some loose connection, even if it is only institutional. Someone says, ‘Oh, you go to that school?’ Maybe they did too, or maybe they hired somebody from your school before and liked them.”

Flexibility and Freedom

One of the best benefits of his new contract position is the flexibility, Timothy told us. When asked to describe his work schedule he responded, “Telecommuting full-time, or whatever I want.” Sounds pretty flexible to us!
