Retiree Finds Great Part-Time Remote Transcription Jobs

“Retiree” Finds Great Part-Time Remote Transcription Jobs

Retirement isn’t what it used to be. More to the point, many people who retire from full-time jobs decide, for any number of reasons, to take up a second (or third or fourth) career. Part-time, remote transcription jobs can offer a fantastic way to keep working into retirement, on your own terms.

Marcy B., our FlexJobs success story this week, decided a while ago to officially retire—sort of.  After a move to Missouri’s Ozarks region, Marcy resumed working and found great part-time remote jobs through her FlexJobs membership.

Three companies—Kelsey Transcripts, Sago Research, and Ubiqus—hired Marcy to work as a transcriptionist. She enjoys the flexibility to set her own work schedule.

Past Remote Experience Sets the Stage

Marcy, who lives in Gravois Mills, Missouri, told us she wasn’t new to working from home. “Since 2010, I have had a part-time, telecommute job as a transcriptionist for two court reporters,” she wrote, responding to questions FlexJobs asks members who’ve found flexible jobs using our service.

Changes in Marcy’s work situation drove her job search. “Recently, one of them left the profession, and I wanted to find additional work to make up for that loss of business so I began looking online for work-from-home opportunities.”

FlexJobs as a Trustworthy Site for Flexible Work

In her online job search, Marcy had a healthy skepticism about “the legitimacy of many websites I visited,” she said, adding, “that was not the case with FlexJobs.” In part, that was because of all the great press, media, and reviews of FlexJobs she discovered in her research. Marcy felt comfortable moving ahead with her membership. “I felt confident that [FlexJobs] offered legitimate employment opportunities.”

Within a couple days of signing up, Marcy told us she started receiving responses. “I was receiving emails from FlexJobs with relevant job postings,” she wrote. “I was looking for something that was part-time, was completely telecommute so that I could work from home, and offered me the opportunity to work when I wanted to.”

Success Finding Flexible Work with FlexJobs

Marcy continued: “Within two months of signing up, I had accepted offers and was receiving work as an independent contractor providing transcription services with three different companies.” She was happy that her new employers allowed her to work from anywhere.

“While, I live in Missouri, through FlexJobs, I was able to connect with employers in Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York!” Marcy wrote.

A Financial Cushion in “Retirement”

The option to keep working has been a great boon to Marcy. “My husband and I are both officially retired (well, I guess I’m really not!), and these FlexJobs work opportunities provide a little extra cushion to our retirement benefits,” Marcy wrote.

“As an independent contractor, I have the opportunity to accept or decline work on any given day, and have the ability to take time off as needed to visit family or when family visits.” Plus, Marcy said, nothing beats an office where she can be in the middle of nature. “My husband and I retired to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and my office has an amazing view!”
