We love to shine the spotlight on employers who’ve had success using FlexJobs to hire wonderful workers. We’d be hard put to find a better company to profile for that purpose than Appirio, a fantastic flexible employer, along with three of the great employees they’ve hired using FlexJobs.

A FlexJobs Featured Employer, Appirio offers next-generation solutions designed to engage both workers and customers, and boost growth and profitability. Appirio is featured among FlexJobs’ 100 Top Companies with Remote Jobs in 2018, an annual list that highlights employers who are leaders in hiring for remote jobs.

Part of the global cloud services company Wipro, Appirio partners with widely recognized brands and companies like Google, Salesforce, eBay, Home Depot, Facebook, Sony PlayStation, and Cardinal Health, providing solutions to help energize workers and customers alike.

We know a lot about what makes Appirio a great employer, including worker benefits, career development and continuing education incentives, and its Cloud Fit virtual wellness and fitness programs. Appirio also offers employees eight hours of paid volunteer time with the organization of their choice. Besides being named a FlexJobs Top 100 remote employer, Appirio has won numerous other awards for its workplace culture, including honors such as being named a certified Great Place to Work.

For a slightly different take, we’ve flipped the script a bit to ask three Appirians (a.k.a. Appirio employees) to tell us in their own words what makes Appirio a great flexible employer.

Here are insights from three Appirio employees about their flexible jobs and what makes Appirio a great flexible employer:

Rebecca Bradley

An avid rock climber, hiker, and traveler, Rebecca is a UX designer on Appirio’s research and development team. Her job involves working with a tight-knit team to create new and innovative user experience tools.

Appirio has a culture that is much more focused than other companies. They believe great work comes from innovative workers. I’ve learned a lot about how remote teams can hold each other accountable and build effective communication outside of an office setting. It’s not a culture that anyone can succeed in, but it’s a culture that many people need to be successful.

I think it’s fun to be part of such a cutting-edge team. A few years ago, management and business experts were still debating if remote workers could succeed. Appirio is showing them that flexible working situations can work, and I think we are leading the way for other businesses to give it a shot.

At my last job, I spent over an hour a day commuting. I have that time back now! I also have a more focused work environment so I get more done, and work more hours, but I have a lot more time for the things I love outside of work as well. That work-life balance makes me feel more successful, in my designs and in my personal life. I can say that my stress levels have gone down and my ability to focus on my work has gone up…. I solve problems every day around how to make the work lives of people more enjoyable.

Charmaine Burtak

Charmaine is a full-time remote worker focusing on Salesforce implementations. A working parent, she sought job flexibility to spend more time with her daughter. Here’s why Charmaine said Appirio is a great flexible employer:

Hours are very flexible at Appirio. Transparency is an important value when dealing with co-workers and clients.  People understand when I have to work extra at night so I can volunteer at my daughter’s school or perform mommy duties. Being transparent about schedules and challenges makes life a lot less stressful.

Appirio‘s culture is also geared towards remote work. Even though I work with everyone from different parts of the world, I feel like I have a relationship with them similar to working with them in an office. In some ways, a better relationship since we don’t waste precious communication time dealing with drama.

The culture and mindset of everyone working here is highly optimistic. Projects can become very challenging and a downer sometimes but everyone you work with is there for support.  I have felt the most supported working here … the quality of life is priceless.

Chris Lorensson

Chris is a full-time senior UX architect at Appirio. A seasoned remote worker, Chris puts his skills to use leading user experience efforts and strategy at Appirio.

Appirio was founded as a remote company; they’re “doing it right” (on a giant scale) by continually investing into ways to enhance their own “Worker’s Experience.”  Appirio’s remote-driven, global culture is a joy to work in.

Appirio built their incredible reputation for quality by understanding that a great consultancy requires not just the best talent, but a culture and process that enables workers to perform at their best. I know I speak for all “Appirians” when I say that it’s a culture of trust, transparency and excellence.… I’ve been working remotely for a long, long time. The flexibility, for me, is the single largest contributing factor to a healthy and social family life. I could never give that up… I’m too spoiled now!

Remote working is a hard thing to get right at a business level. I’ve never seen this large of an organization do it this well. Appirio is setting the bar for large, remote businesses. I’m proud to be a part of it.

Tips and Insights on Hiring Remote Workers

If you’re an employer looking to join the ranks of Appirio and other companies that excel at recruiting top talent, take a few cues from their recipe for success:

  • Provide support that helps flexible workers succeed. From technical support to employee development for remote and flexible workers, you’ll improve your chances of reaping big dividends by providing training and support to employees with flexible schedules.
  • Offer benefits that appeal to flexible workers. Become conversant with the range of benefits that help flexible workers improve their well-being and effectiveness to help your organization reap all the benefits of a happier and more productive workforce.
  • Demonstrate commitment to work flexibility. As an employer, you’ll be in a better position to attract top candidates if you can show your company offers flexible work, not just as a “perk,” but as a way of conducting business, day in and day out.
