Why Some Professionals Will Only Work Remotely

Save

Working remotely isn’t necessarily something that people want to do for personal gain. Some professionals will only work remotely because it’s the way they are able to provide the best results for their employer.

Often, the lack of remote options isn’t a problem stemming from the employees, but rather a lack of trust on the employer’s side, which is unfortunate. Why employ someone you can’t trust? Shouldn’t you be creating a trusting environment from the get-go?

For employers worried about the use of remote work, there are numerous reasons that it benefits you. Not just in an operational and economic sense, but in a way that creates a better culture for your workplace and creates better results.

Here are four reasons some professionals will only work remotely:

1. Productivity

Working from home does not mean your employees are sitting on the couch watching their favorite show. Rather, working from home allows employees to be more productive. Since they are happier, have fewer interruptions from coworkers, and can focus on their work, they get more done. Higher productivity from employees is better for the employer.

2. Hours

Some people work better in the morning. Others work better in the evening. When employers dictate hours—the exact same hours—for all employees, a lot of potential is lost. Some professionals will only work remotely so that they can control the hours they work. And this isn’t so they can catch some more sleep. Rather, they want to work hours when they are able to best give their employer dedicated focus and effort.

3. Results

Everybody wants to do good work. They want to feel successful. When working from home, professionals are able to focus on their results rather than simply being in the office. As an employer, don’t you want your employees to provide better results? Flexible work makes this possible. And if the results don’t follow, it’s likely not the remote work arrangements, but the individual.

4. Comfort

Working under stress in a cold environment, uncomfortable chair, and locked away in a cubicle is not comfortable. Although comfort might not be something you associate with work, it should be. When you are comfortable in an environment that suits you, you work better. Not only are you comfortable, but your mood, focus, and productivity also improve.

While there are likely some personal reasons why some professionals will only work remotely, for the most part, it is for professional reasons. Employees want to do good work, feel successful, and make a difference in the organization. It’s an added bonus that they’ll also be able to enjoy other areas of their life as well.
