American Humane is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to “ensuring the safety, welfare and well-being of animals.” American Humane was founded in 1877 at a meeting of delegates from 27 local humane organizations from 10 U.S. states who sought to unify their efforts to end the inhumane treatment of farm animals in the country and strengthen the bond between people and animals. 

Since its inception, American Humane has continued to expand its programs and reach, providing leadership initiatives, such as the “No Animals Were Harmed®” program in Hollywood, conservation and farm animal welfare certifications, animal rescue initiatives, and much more. In addition, American Humane offers a number of grants and awards designed to deliver funding to lifesaving efforts that benefit both humans and animals.
