Established in 1911, California State University, Fresno, was originally founded as a response to a need for teachers, and opened with 150 students in attendance. From those humble beginnings, California State University, Fresno, has grown to a full-fledged college with more than 20,000 students in 64 Bachelor's programs, 44 Master's programs, and 3 Doctoral subject areas. The goal of California State University, Fresno, is to produce lifelong, creative learners that are not only prepared for today's shifting job market, but also prepared for life. Much of California State University, Fresno's academic initiatives have been generously provided by private donors, allowing the college to add to their list of regional field development such as winemaking and sciences, critical to the culture of California and its economy.
