About Color Of Change
Researched & Written by Emily March on the FlexJobs Team
Color Of Change (COC) is a nonprofit organization promoting racial justice by helping people respond effectively to injustice. Headquartered in Oakland, California, Color Of Change is self-described as the nation’s largest online force, with over 1.7 million members taking action on behalf of Black people to create a less hostile and more human world. As an employer, the nonprofit has posted flexible jobs, such as remote opportunities, in government & politics, nonprofit & philanthropy, human services, and project management, among other fields.
Color Of Change beckons qualified job seekers to join the COC team and work toward building Black power. A Black-led organization leading a “powerful” multiracial team, the organization takes pride in its ability to collaborate, leverage its diversity, and work with deep respect for one another in a dynamic, evolving, and fiery culture. Among other qualifications, applicants should identify with Color Of Change's mission and believe in racial justice. In return for their innovation and persistence, associates at Color Of Change enjoy comprehensive health coverage, retirement savings, a “generous” vacation package, a sabbatical, and other benefits as eligible.
Color Of Change was founded in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina, where, according to COC, the government failed to meet even the most basic needs of Black people in crisis and the media promoted inaccurate and dehumanizing images of Black people to rationalize this failure. Since then, the team has been working strategically, creatively, and collaboratively to make the voice of the Black community “un-ignorable” enough to influence systemic change. Designing campaigns focused on criminal justice, culture change and media justice, voting freedom and democracy, tech justice, right-wing politics and white nationalism, and economic justice, Color Of Change commissions research, advances solutions, creates corporate and political accountability, and challenges injustice through various initiatives.
