A division of Colorado State University's Office of Engagement, the Colorado Water Center - CoWC was founded to focus the water expertise of higher education on evolving water concerns and issues faced by citizens of Colorado. Flexible jobs offered by CoWC in the past include part-time jobs and internship positions. The Colorado Water Center also occasionally posts hourly positions for CSU students, offering opportunities for continued employment and/or long-term employment potential commensurate with performance.

The Colorado Water Center was formed when the Colorado Water Institute and the CSU Water Center combined, and its mission is to connect the state's higher education expertise with the educational and research needs of Colorado water users and managers. CoWC is authorized and funded by the Colorado Legislature and Congress and led by an advisory board comprised of officials from the state's Departments of Agriculture, Forest Service, Public Health and the Environment, and other conservation and related organizations. The Colorado Water Center produces a monthly newsletter entitled Colorado Water, a print and online publication dedicated to highlighting water activities and research conducted by Colorado State University and other organizations throughout the state. Furthermore, every five years, CoWC undergoes a mandated peer review under the authority of the U.S. Geological Survey.
