About Drupal Association

Researched & Written by Christina Reck on the FlexJobs Team

Drupal Association is a nonprofit educational organization that was created after the rapid expansion of the Drupal CMS project between 2001 and 2006. Drupal is a free, open source content management platform which allows users to publish, manage, and organize website content. What originally started as DrupalCon in 2009, the organization formally assumed the business name, Drupal Association in July of 2011.

The Drupal project was founded more than 10 years ago by Dries Buytaert in his home, but the organization pursued its U.S. 501(c)(3) tax exemption status in August of 2010. Alongside the Drupal Project, the Drupal Association has continued to grow with the continued support of the community, a group of volunteers and people that have assisted with keeping Drupal alive and thriving. The Drupal Association helps the project community by managing donations, grants and funding, organizing events, creating partnerships with related organizations, managing infrastructure related to the project, and promoting the Drupal project through press releases and promotional materials.

Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Drupal Association is comprised of a talented and dynamic team of volunteers and staff that are passionate about serving the need of its diverse community of site builders, content editors, coders, and more. The organization offers eligible staffers a benefits package, that includes medical, dental, and vision, along with 24 days of paid vacation and sick leave. In the past, it has hired for freelancing, part-time, full-time, and telecommuting jobs.
