Established in 1984, the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy was founded to provide support to families that are affected by the disease, as well as to fund research leading to treatment and a cure. With more than $50 million granted by the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the research has focused primarily in basic research, drug development, and clinical trials.
