Based in New York, New York, Harlem Lacrosse is a nonprofit organization providing academic intervention, leadership training, and lacrosse to at-risk youth in cities nationwide. Established in 2011, the team uses a school-based, around-the-clock, holistic model of support that works to improve outcomes for 800+ students in Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Los Angeles, California, and beyond. In the coming years, the organization hopes to strengthen its existing operations and expand.

Harlem Lacrosse recruits and serves a diverse group of students recognized by their schools "as most vulnerable to academic decline." Full-time tutors, mentors, and coaches are placed at school sites to provide personalized attention in programs for study halls, lacrosse training, admissions counseling, college trips, career exploration, and more. The organization started with a revelation made by cofounder Simon Cataldo, who joined the faculty of a school in Harlem, New York, with Teach for America. Struggling to make an impact, he coached the class in lacrosse, which emphasizes a "college-going culture.” By coaching, encouraging, and motivating students on the field, Simon was able to build confidence, perseverance, and skills useful for the game and the classroom. Previous Harlem Lacrosse alumni have earned admission with scholarships to institutions like Tufts University and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
