Since the organization's founding, it has grown to a volunteer membership of over 25,000 and a team of 50+ staffers. From its work, Heal the Bay has made substantial progress in protecting California's aquatic habitats. Among other victories, the team catalyzed the grassroots campaign for upholding the statewide ban on harmful, single-use plastic bags.
