About Institute for Curriculum Services - ICS

Researched & Written by Emily March on the FlexJobs Team

The Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS) is on a mission to improve the accuracy of K-12 instruction on Jews, Judaism, Jewish history, and Israel in the United States. The nonprofit achieves this goal by developing standards-aligned curricula and by providing professional development to teachers nationwide. When looking to grow its team, ICS has invited qualified professionals with backgrounds in marketing, business development, education & training, and news & journalism, namely in publishing, among other fields, to apply for open roles. Depending on the role, preferred applicants have been described as those who demonstrate a deep understanding of the K-12 publishing space, have the ability to work both collaboratively and independently, support ICS’s mission, and have a naturally charismatic, confident, personable, and enthusiastic demeanor. In support of work-life balance, the Institute for Curriculum Services has offered 100% remote and freelance opportunities with part-time and flexible schedules with select roles. ICS also fosters a culture that encourages professional development and celebrates and appreciates the contributions of all team members.

The Institute for Curriculum Services was launched in 2005 to address misinformation and historical inaccuracies about Jewish history and Judaism in public school textbooks. The organization works with publishers to ensure instructional materials are balanced and accurate, and over the years, has introduced and expanded professional development opportunities for history and social studies educators to reflect its commitment to teachers. Ultimately, ICS operates with the belief that an excellent education is essential to building a strong civil society where everyone can flourish. Since its founding, over 13,000 teachers have participated in ICS’s workshops, and over 95% of participants report that they would recommend ICS workshops to others.
