Since 1992, Maggie's Organics has offered fairly-produced socks and other apparel made from organic fibers and other environment-sustaining materials. Based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Maggie's Organics has a goal of providing "durable, affordable, and beautiful articles," including socks that are made in the U.S., and other clothing such as camisoles, baby items, T-shirts, tops, and accessories. Founder Bena Burda started Maggie's Organics "by accident," when she began investigating ways to improve the quality of the blue corn chips that she was marketing. That investigation led to a commitment to cultivating organic cotton to increase crop yields, and eventually to the production of organic cotton as an alternative to traditionally produced cotton, which uses significant amounts of pesticides. Maggie's Organics is a member of the Domestic Fair Trade Association, the Organic Trade Association, and Green America. As an employer, Maggie's Organics has offered full-time and remote job opportunities in the past.
