Born out of 20 years of community building, stewardship, and education, the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to the care and protection of the wild islands of Maine. The Maine Island Trail is a chain of 180 coastal islands strung out along 375 miles. One third of the trail is public land, and the other two thirds belong to private individuals that entrust the Maine Island Trail Association to care and maintain the land, and teach the Leave No Trace philosophy. The Maine Island Trail Association's members include paddlers, sailors, motorboaters and other individuals who want to see these waterways preserved for future generations. As an employer, the Maine Island Trail Association has offered a variety of part-time positions in the past.
