The National Academy Foundation works to strengthen outcomes for students by partnering with high-need communities and developing small learning communities, called NAF academies, focused on growing industries like finance and engineering within existing high schools. Founded in 1980, NAF has grown from one NAF academy in New York, New York, to hundreds of academies spanning the United States. Through its educational design, the organization focuses on igniting students’ passion for learning and implementing industry-specific, STEM-infused curricula and work-based learning experiences into learning environments. During the 2020-2021 school year, over 117,000 students attended 618+ NAF academies throughout 34 states, as well as Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Washington, DC.
