The American Coatings Association created the nonprofit organization, PaintCare, in 2009 in response to the passage of the first United States paint product legislation. PaintCare represents paint manufacturers and manages paint stewardship programs in states that create laws for post-consumer paint management. Currently, PaintCare operates programs in Vermont, Rhode Island, Oregon, Minnesota, Maine, the District of Columbia, Connecticut, Colorado, and California. PaintCoat primarily serves to give people more options when it comes to disposing of unwanted, leftover paint.
