Palmer Land Conservancy, formerly known as Palmer Land Trust, has been dedicated to protecting and preserving land in southern Colorado for present and future generations. Founded in 1977, Palmer Land Conservancy was originally established to focus primarily on preserving public open spaces and parks through partnerships with Colorado city and county governments. Although the organization continues to protect open spaces and parks, it has expanded its scope and today works with private landowners and government agencies to permanently protect additional land resources around the state. Palmer Land is responsible for permanently protecting more than 100,000 acres of wildlife habitat, working farms, public open spaces, and scenic vistas. Based on the amount of acreage conserved, the organization has become one of the 20 largest local U.S. land trusts. It was also one of the nation’s first 100 nationally accredited land trusts.
