The Military Family Research Institute - MFRI at Purdue University pairs outreach and research to offer programs in support of service members, veterans, and their families. The institute collaborates with communities, organizations, and other parties who endeavor to improve the lives of military families by building stronger practices, programs, and policies. Purdue University launched its Center for Families in 1993 and created MFRI in 2000.

Deemed "research with impact," the Military Family Research Institute administers and analyzes studies to gain insight into the experiences of military and veteran families. MFRI once received the Eagle's Wings Award for the honor, fidelity, and patriotism it displayed in support of military families of the Indiana National Guard. Additional strategic goals held by the research institute include supporting military infrastructures, generating new knowledge about military families and strengthening civilian communities to support them, and sustaining dynamic learning organizations. The Military Family Research Institute also established an education and employment initiative to work with Indiana's post-secondary schools to launch supportive programs and services for student veterans.
