About Queens Botanical Garden

Researched & Written by Carol Cochran on the FlexJobs Team

Located in Flushing, New York, the Queens Botanical Garden was originally created as an exhibit for the 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair. Subsequently expanded by a group of local residents, the garden officially opened in 1946 as the Queens Botanical Garden Society. In 1961, the Queens Botanical Garden was moved to its current location at the northeast corner of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, taking several of its original plantings, such as the two blue atlas cedars that still frame the garden’s main entrance.

Today, the Queens Botanical Garden encompasses 39 acres and features rose, ornamental grass, perennial, wetland and woodland, backyard, annual, bee, herb, floral, children’s, and other gardens as well as an arboretum, educational facilities, and more. A popular site for wedding photographs, the Queens Botanical Garden also rents its Wedding Garden and facilities for ceremonies, receptions, parties, showers, and other special occasions, as well as for corporate events and meetings. The Queens Botanical Garden also hosts events and educational programs throughout the year for children, adults, and school groups.

As an employer, the Queens Botanical Garden recognizes that its team members are one of its most significant assets and offers internships and professional job opportunities for candidates who want to help serve and inspire the garden’s 200,000+ annual visitors. In the past, the Queens Botanical Garden has posted job opportunities featuring part-time and temporary scheduling flexibility.
