About ThinkCERCA

Researched & Written by Emily March on the FlexJobs Team

ThinkCERCA is an e-learning company that offers solutions for literacy growth, standards-aligned instruction, differentiation, close reading, and academic writing. As the organization works to achieve its mission of providing every student with access to high-quality, engaging curriculum, leadership seeks collaborative and passionate applicants who take ownership and enjoy learning. The team of 40+ associates fosters a community-driven culture of work-life balance, growth, and relationships. Coworkers enjoy quarterly events, like pizza-making classes and biannual team retreats for bonding, fun, and professional development. Supportive of LGBTQ and other marginalized communities, ThinkCERCA also works to promote values of diversity and inclusion within the workplace, education, and around the world through training and workshops. Flexible opportunities, including remote, work-from-anywhere jobs, have been posted in project management, business developmenteducation & trainingsoftware development, and as an analyst.

Based in Chicago, Illinois, ThinkCERCA traces its roots to 2012 when founder and former educator Eileen Murphy developed CERCA, a personalized literacy framework that helps students engage in critical thinking through argumentative writing. Serving as the foundation of ThinkCERCA's platform, this research-based, pedagogical approach was developed to address inefficiencies of existing solutions to enhance assessment achievement and prepare students for post-secondary life. ThinkCERCA's program supports literacy across the curriculum in four core subjects: English language arts, science, math, and social studies. It works by teaching students how to make and support claims with evidence, address counterarguments, explain their reasoning, and utilize language that is audience-appropriate.

ThinkCERCA's tools have been recognized by Bill Gates as "game-changing” and were revealed by a survey of 26 EdTech products to have the largest impact on student reading growth. Since its founding, the company has won multiple awards, including the 2018 Classroom Essentials Award for Secondary Education granted by the Illinois Association of Teachers of English (IATE).
