(A Division of U.S. Department of Defense)
Researched & Written by Ann Rozier on the FlexJobs Team
Pentagon Force Protection Agency, or PFPA, is a civilian agency that operates within the United States Department of Defense. The Agency’s earliest incarnation was the U.S. Special Policemen (USSP), a group that provided security, law enforcement, and safety-related functions within the Pentagon facility. The USSP evolved throughout the years to meet the needs for more comprehensive protection, including taking on Department of Defense tasks outside the immediate Pentagon grounds. In 2002, in response to the September 11th attack at the Pentagon, Pentagon Force Protection Agency was established. The new agency absorbed the earlier service organizations in its role as the security and law enforcement provider for the Pentagon.
Pentagon Force Protection Agency is charged with the mission to protect personnel, property, and other resources throughout the 280-acre Pentagon Reservation, as well as other designated Department of Defense facilities in the area. The Agency also issues building passes and provides emergency services, access control, parking management, and mail screening services.
Pentagon Force Protection Agency jobs have been available with telecommuting opportunities for remote office work. As a federal government employer, the Agency offers a comprehensive benefits package, and may require security clearances as a condition of employment. Pentagon Force Protection Agency has posted job openings in law enforcement, security, threat management, technical work, and investigative work.
