Founded in 1894, Van Alen Institute is a non-profit organization that was originally known as the Society of Beaux-Arts Architects. The organization was started to offer curriculum based on architecture. Then, in 1956, the name was changed to the NIAE, or the National Institute for Architectural Education. By 1995, the Van Alen Institute became what it is today in honor of the Chrysler Building architect, William Van Alen. The Van Alen Institute is focused on scholars and practitioners and the advancement of public architecture.
