Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, Yoga Alliance is dedicated to providing education and support for the practice of yoga in the United States. Established in 1999 with the merger of Unity in Yoga and Ad Hoc Yoga Alliance, both volunteer organizations, Yoga Alliance sets national standards for yoga teachers and works to educate the public about the benefits of yoga. A registry maintained by Yoga Alliance lists yoga teachers who meet the 200-hour and 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher - RYT certifications offered by the alliance. A list of yoga schools that meet specific training standards is also maintained by Yoga Alliance. Emphasizing respect and support for the various styles and traditions of yoga, Yoga Alliance sponsors conferences and offers continuing education to foster the practice and benefits of yoga.
