Writer Finds Remote Job for Better Work Productivity

For some at-home workers, the ability to control their work environment is one of the happiest benefits of telecommuting. Finding a remote job for better work productivity is a high-priority goal for people across many career fields, and workers in creative fields in particular often find the relative calm of a home office—compared to the noisier environments of more collaborative workspaces—to be a godsend.

Our success story this week provides a great example of how people in creative careers sometimes find that they benefit tremendously from working at home. Lilia O. is a writer who used FlexJobs to find a full-time, work-from-home job as a content specialist with Bulletin Intelligence (now part of Cision), which is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and provides news briefings and information for top corporate and government leaders across the U.S.

Seeking the Advantages of Working from Home

The opportunity to enjoy the relative peace and quiet of a home office was just one of Lilia’s job-hunting goals when she began her search at FlexJobs. She also was looking for ways to keep learning, expand her skills, and enhance her future employability, she told us in response to questions from FlexJobs. “I wanted a job that allowed me the opportunity to further my education,” said Lilia, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona. Another priority for Lilia was escaping the time-consuming drudgery of commuting. “Having a job that is remote means not having to commute, which offers me more time to focus on improving myself as an employee by gaining new skills related to my industry,” she told us.

Being in a quiet workspace at home, where she could really tap into her creative side, was also a big factor. “As a writer, I also find that I’m most productive working in an environment that is free of noise,” Lilia said. “In other words, working from a home office not only offers me the flexibility I crave, but a space where I can be my most creative.”

Lilia said she was on the hunt for “a [legitimate] way to find work-from-home opportunities,” when she found FlexJobs during an online search. Impressed by favorable reviews, Lilia said she “decided to give FlexJobs a chance. I’m glad I did!” Once she activated her FlexJobs membership, Lilia said she found the site easy to navigate and liked the “useful” daily email updates about new job opportunities.

Advice for Others Seeking Flexible Jobs

Lilia has great advice for job seekers looking for flexible work, including the kind of salary-based position she found in the FlexJobs listings. “As cliche as it sounds, my one [piece of] advice would be to be your best self!” Lilia said. “Find out what makes you marketable and unique and don’t be afraid to sell yourself to a potential employee.”
