8 of the Top Companies for Remote Jobs Share Why They Hire Remote

Save

In early 2018, we released our fifth annual list of the “100 Top Companies for Remote Jobs.” And we asked the top recruiters and leaders of these companies to tell us why they hire remote workers.

FlexJobs releases this list every year to showcase which companies have made big commitments to remote work, and hired the most remote workers over the last year.

Leaders from Dell Technologies, Convergys, SYKES, Williams-Sonoma, VIPKid, Appen, and TTEC shared their thoughts on why their companies are so committed to remote work.

One clear trend stood out among their comments: these companies understand that remote work is a mutually beneficial arrangement between workers and companies.

Let’s review how these companies are recognized for remote hiring:

Each year for the past five years, we’ve analyzed the job posting data in the FlexJobs database, which contains flexible job histories for over 49,000 companies, to find the 100 companies that posted the most remote-friendly job openings throughout the last year.

Remote-friendly means the openings must offer some level of telecommuting (the levels on our site are 100%, mostly, some, or optional telecommuting).

Here are 25 top companies with remote jobs in 2018:

8 of the Top Companies for Remote Jobs Share Why They Hire Remote:

1. More Loyal and Engaged Employees

Dell Technologies’ Jennifer Newbill, Director Global Employment Brand

“There are several reasons for providing connected and flexible work options to our employees. From an attraction standpoint, we find that candidates are specifically seeking flexibility as a part of their search, while it also helps widen the talent pools for our recruiters and hiring leaders. We also find that our employees who indicate that they have flexibility in their current roles have a higher Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS). In summary, what is good for the employees can also be good for business.”

2. Expanding Outside the Brick-and-Mortar

Convergys’ Jillene Jensen, Senior Director Talent Acquisition

“Offering remote work options is so important to Convergys. We strive to extend fulfilling employment opportunities to communities outside of our brick-and-mortar footprint. We realize that extraordinary talent exists in all corners of our country, so it is important that we extend our reach and open doors in communities across the country.”

3. Finding Specialized Talent Beyond Geographic Boundaries

SYKES’ Jim Farnsworth, Executive Vice President and General Manager

“SYKESHome brings unmatched ability for delivering resources and talent to our clients. We make geography our ally and can go anywhere to find specialized talent, in tech, finance and healthcare, or whatever expertise is required, according to the needs of any particular client, and at whatever scale they desire. Freed from the limitations of who is available in a single community, we can draw from a continent-wide labor pool as needed. In fact, the labor pool for SYKESHome is not a pool at all—it’s a vast talent ocean, offering any variety of resources, enabling us to deliver excellent service to meet growing and evolving client needs.”

4. Getting into New Markets

Williams-Sonoma’s Craig Barnes, Senior Vice President Customer Care

“It gives us the flexibility to not only attract great talent that otherwise might not want to travel to a location, but it also allows us to expand our talent pool by getting us into markets all across the United States.”

5. Building a Mostly Remote Business

VIPKid’s Kevyn Klein, Director of Teacher Community

“VIPKid is honored to be ranked as FlexJobs’ global #1 company for remote jobs in 2018. VIPKid connects children in China (and 32 other countries) with the world’s best teachers for real-time, one-to-one online English immersion learning. A global education company, VIPKid’s mission is to inspire and empower every child for the future. 6. Diversifying the Workplace with Hard-to-Reach Hires

“By offering work-at-home opportunities, TTEC hires candidates including veterans transitioning back to civilian life, displaced workers, and students or parents who require a flexible schedule. As an integral and integrated part of our team, these associates get the same benefits, training, and supervision as associates at our physical locations,” said Michael Wellman, Chief People Officer, TTEC.  “For our clients, @home enables businesses to quickly scale as they grow or expand to meet seasonal demands.
