Part of the national nonprofit organization, the Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter was founded in 1974 and is the only statewide, member-led environmental organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. With support from over 25,000 members, the mission of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sierra Club is to protect the Commonwealth's clean water, natural resources, and open spaces for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

Like all Sierra Club affiliates, the Pennsylvania Chapter inspires people to explore and protect the earth's wild places. The organization practices and promotes responsible use of ecosystems and resources, educating and enlisting humanity to conserve and restore natural and human environments by using every lawful means to achieve this objective. In addition to offices in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Sierra Club PA Chapter operates nine active regional groups across the state, which help it fight for safe, livable communities.
