The United Way of Greater St. Louis is a member of the national United Way organization that was founded in 1887 in response to city welfare problems. The United Way of Greater St. Louis was formed in 1922 as the Community Fund as a way for volunteers to generate funds for more than 40 local charity organizations.

Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the United Way of Greater St. Louis serves more than 3 million individuals across 15 counties in Missouri and Illinois, including the cities of Franklin, Lincoln, Madison, St. Charles, Jefferson, Jersey, Monroe, Randolph, and Warren. In the past, the organization has supported a flexible work environment and work-life balance by hiring for part-time and seasonal jobs.

Now serving one in three people each year in the St. Louis area of Missouri, the organization partners with more than 170 nonprofit organizations and programs, such as STLVolunteer and United Way 2-1-1.
