Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence was established in 2016 when Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania merged with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester Counties in New Jersey. The organization offers professionally supported school and community-based mentoring programs designed to increase confidence, educational pursuits, and aspirations in children while helping them learn to avoid risky behaviors. Ultimately, by matching child “Littles” living in single-parent homes, growing up in poverty, or dealing with parental incarceration with excellent role models, or “Bigs,” Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence is giving kids a chance to grow into successful, well-adjusted adults.
