Growing out of 80 years of women fighting for the right to vote, the League of Women Voters of Minnesota (LWVMN) is part of the League of Women Voters (LWV), a grassroots, nonpartisan organization that aims to create a body of informed citizens who actively participate in government activities and decisions. Founded in 1920, LWV oversees chapters in every U.S. state and territory and operates on local, state, and national levels.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota was established on October 19th, 1919 when the Minnesota Suffrage Association dissolved. Now that women obtained the right to vote, the organization was primarily concerned with increasing effectiveness of votes by educating women on the mechanics of government and voting, and how their involvement could improve communities. According to LWVMN, experts believe society entered the third wave of feminism in the 1990s that focuses on inclusion and diversity. LWVMN works to evolve and remain relevant by speaking to these issues and magnifying diverse voices of present-day feminism efforts and communities. Recent legislative priorities of 2019 include support for fair district maps, improved election infrastructure, legislative transparency, and more.
