The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts (LWVMA) is a part of the League of Women Voters (LWV), a grassroots, nonpartisan organization dedicated to informing the public about governmental policy, advocating for policy change, and motivating communities to get involved. With Leagues across the United States, LWV operates on local, state, and national levels. 

Led by President and Development Committee Chair Mary Ann Ashton, LWVMA was founded in May of 1920, three months after the establishment of the League of Women Voters. LWVMA focuses on issues such as election laws, natural resources, women’s health, children’s issues, civil rights, the open meeting law, budget and finances, and more. The organization works to provide support to its local Leagues, members, and volunteers by providing necessary infrastructure, information, and tools, as well as the opportunity to propose future programs and areas of study and action. LWVMA manages a Citizen Education Fund in the name of Lotte E. Scharfman. Through education and voter service programs, this fund helps to create a body of informed citizens actively participating in government. Most recently, the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts hosted a student video contest called “The Climate Change Challenge” as an advocacy and education initiative to influence climate reform. 

Based in Boston, Massachusetts, LWVMA seeks professionals and interns who are passionate about “empowering voters” and “defending democracy.” The organization has posted jobs that support work-life balance by offering flexible and part-time schedule opportunities as well as paid time off.
