About League of Women Voters of Michigan
(A Division of League of Women Voters - LWV)

Researched & Written by Adrianne Bibby on the FlexJobs Team

Envisioning a democracy "where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate," the League of Women Voters of Michigan (LWVMI) is part of the League of Women Voters (LWV), a grassroots, nonpartisan organization founded in 1920 to assist and educate women voters who just received the right to vote. With chapters across the United States in over 700 communities, LWV operates on local, state, and national levels.

In April of 1919, the Michigan Equal Suffrage Association voted to become the Michigan League of Women Voters, which affiliated under the National League of Women Voters once it was officially organized in 1920. Today, with local, interdependent Leagues across Michigan, the organization works to educate the public on government and voting issues so it may effectively participate in the U.S. democracy. LWVMI focuses on education and advocacy initiatives for programs such as redistricting, election laws, government finance, the Great Lakes ecosystem, public education, and Michigan prisons, among others. The League makes efforts to maintain presence in events and project planning as well as research, production of publications and resources, and activism initiatives. Most recently, LWVMI opposed bills that go against its support of communities that have policies in effect to welcome immigrants.

Led by President Judy Karandjeff, the League of Women Voters of Michigan is based in Lansing and has wanted experienced and manager-level professionals who are passionate about democracy and empowering voters. LWVMI has a history of posting flexible jobs that feature work-life balance solutions and part-time schedules.
