The League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL) is part of the League of Women Voters (LWV), a grassroots, nonpartisan organization concerned with influencing the public to participate in government and help shape public policy through education and advocacy. Founded in 1920, the organization operates on local, state, and national levels.

Based in Chicago, the League of Women Voters of Illinois was established on February 14, 1920. With 40 Leagues and almost 3,000 members in Illinois, members and volunteers hold public meetings on issues, host candidate forums, oversee local government activities, hold events such as the recent 2019 Lobby Day, and work to improve and maintain good communities. Led by President Bonnie Cox, the League of Women Voters of Illinois takes positions on four main focus areas: representative government, international relations, natural resources, and social policy, researching and taking action on subjects ranging from campaign finance to climate change to equal rights to gun violence protection. Most recently, local Leagues of Illinois worked to successfully diminish the size of county boards and pass local referendums for libraries and schools. With its large member base and presence of local and inter-Leagues, LWVIL works to provide a plethora of publications and resources for not only the public, but for its members and local LWV leaders. Approaching its 100th anniversary, the League works tirelessly to evolve and continue in its transformational journey.
